Mackinac 1934

A 194 trip to Mackinac Island before the barracks were built and as the Governor’s Honor Guard program was evolving.  This was the only year scouts from outside of Michigan were invited to serve and they were supposed to be Eagle Scouts.  (Although the photos would seem to indicate much younger scouts and not all had eagle badges.) Photos may include Governor Wm. Comstock meeting scouts.  Note scouts sleeping in tents on parade ground; taking old Railway Ferry over used to haul RR cars across the straits before the bridge; number of sailboats in the Island harbor.  Also Sea Scouts were part of the contingent as well as a scout band.  Scouts on Arch Rock and Sugar Loaf.  Major Greany is pictured in 1934 on the 3rd slide from last.
